BBC’s China correspondent John Sudworth and his wife Yvonne Murray, another correspondent to Irish broadcaster RTE, left China—being relocated from Beijing to Taiwan. They had left on very short notice after March 23rd because of grave concerns to the safety of him and his family, issued the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of China (FCCC). BBC states, “John’s work has exposed truths the Chinese authorities did not want the world to know. The BBC is proud of John’s award-winning reporting during his time in Beijing and he remains our China correspondent.”
The Chinese authorities retaliated with threats, oppressive surveillance, and harassment against Sudworth for months since he covered the truth about Xinjiang, the COVID-19 pandemic and other issues that the Chinese foreign ministry officials didn’t want the world to know. The retaliation increased after the UK’s broadcasting regulator Ofcom, in February, cancelled the license of CGTN, a news channel controlled by the Chinese Communistic Party (CCP). Since then, the Chinese regime has banned BBC World News from being broadcasted in China.
From a Xinjiang official, on March 18th, as quoted by the Global Times, a Chinese propaganda mouthpiece, individuals in the region were going to sue BBC for fake news and slandering Xinjiang and China’s Xinjiang policies. According to the FCCC, the Chinese authorities were bent on threatening journalists with legal action, which could bar them from leaving China. Another such example was two Australian journalists, in September of 2020, had to be evacuated by the government and were sheltered a few days at diplomatic missions because the Chinese wouldn’t let them leave.

The world must stand up to the Chinese Communistic Party (CCP). They are communistic and corrupt and they are top-notch human rights abusers.
